An October day

What a gift of a day. Warm, sunny, cloudless blue skies. Our friends Connie and Joey are visiting and we drove in to the Providence farmer’s market to get food for dinner—Narragansett Creamery mozzarella and eggplant for grilled pizza. We bought what is likely to be the last corn of the season. After the exhausting trip to the market we ate lunch and enjoyed a lazy afternoon in the sun, reading (and sleeping) while chickens pecked the ground all around us. Then we cooked our pizza, sitting outside and drinking the champagne brought by our friends. After dinner we crowded around a roaring bonfire and toasted marshmallows for s’mores. The owls and coyotes announced themselves as a large moon rose in a clear sky and hundreds of stars appeared. For all the lovely summer evenings, a warm fall night is a treasure, snatched from among the colder days, a reminder of what was, only somehow a bit better.
